Let's go to Daytona Beach
February and Daytona Beach go together like cookies and milk. So why not make your way down to the city that greets the year's shortest month with a long list of attractions and events. And while NASCAR is sure to be big draw to this city that attracts over 8 million tourists per year, there are plenty of things to do on Daytona's beaches and boardwalks if you can't make it to the big race. Beat the spring break hordes to Daytona by a month and you will be rewarded by beautiful sunsets, smaller crowds and, if you're lucky, a ticket to the Speedway. |

Things you can do:
-
Daytona 500: "The Great American Race" is being held on February 24 at the Daytona International Speedway this year and you could be among the 250,000 or so people in attendance. The 500-mile race always attracts one of the largest television audiences for the year - but being there in person is considered a once-in-a-lifetime happening. Daytona kicks off the NASCAR calendar, showcasing its biggest event on the first day of the season. Daytona also hosts preliminary and qualifying races throughout February if you cannot attend on the 24th.
-
Daytona's beaches: Daytona is known as "The World's Most Famous Beach," with over 23 miles of sandy, white beaches that are open to everyone around the clock with free access. Temperatures in winter can get into the 70s on a good day, and the endless stretch of beach will help you forget that it's still winter in most of the rest of the US. Watersports lovers can choose from boating, kayaking, jet skiing, parasailing, surfing and more.
-
Driving on the beach: Daytona Beach is one of the few places in the world where you can legally drive on an ocean beach. The city is famous for its hard-packed sand and beach driving which is permissible, within certain restricted areas, one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset. The hard sand made Daytona Beach a mecca for sports racing fans and you can see where many say the sport got its start.
-
Fishing Daytona Beach is an angler's paradise. Whether you prefer onshore, deep-sea excursions or flats fishing, there is a prize-winner awaiting you. Deep sea enthusiasts can join one of the many offshore, deep-sea boats that depart from Ponce Inlet marinas daily. Or head to the nearby Tomoka Basin or Indian River Lagoon if flats fishing is more your speed.
-
Golf Daytona Beach: Great winter weather, easy accessibility and dozens of world-class golf courses await you in Daytona Beach, which is fast becoming one of the country's top year-round golf vacation destinations. Courses designed by legends of the game dot the area. Golf Digest recently ranked Daytona Beach in the top 15 places to play in the nation.
-
Museum of Arts and Sciences: The Museum of Arts & Sciences (MOAS) is the primary art, science and history museum in Central Florida. Located on a 90-acre Florida nature preserve, the 100,000 square foot facility is host to over 30,000 objects. Highlights include restored railroad cars, Florida's prehistoric giant ground sloth and large collections of Chinese and Cuban art.

Daytona Beach International Airport: DAB airport, the "Gateway to Central Florida," connects world-class Atlantic Ocean beaches to the Daytona Speedway, Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine, one of the oldest European-settled cities in North America.
